Balgonie Castle.
The home of our friends, The Much Honoured Raymond Morris, The Laird of Balgonie and his wife Margaret, The Lady of Balgonie and their son, Stuart Morris of Balgonie the Younger and heir. This is one of Scotland's few remaining working castles. This is the residence of the Balgonies where they live and work every day. For the most part, the castle remains in original condition with only the most necessary modern conveniences. A visit to Balgonie Castle is truly a step back to yesteryear. You feel a part of centuries past. Balgonie Castle is one of the most wonderful settings in Fife, if not Scotland. The Laird and his family use their home as a wonderful venue for weddings, banquets, meetings and catered events. Why not get married in the 14th Century chapel that has been a part of Balgonie Castle for so long or have your banquet, meeting or celebration in the Great Hall in an atmosphere unlike any other. We can attest through our own personal experience at the wonderment and beauty of the castle's setting and the care and understanding offered by the Balgonies. The work on the steps to the gatehouse at Balgonie Castle is nearing completion. We are most pleased to be of this wee assistance to the Laird and Lady of Balgonie and their son Stuart the Younger. A wee bit more creosote and then hang the gate on its hinges. This work has been and continues to be a labour of love for our friends, the Balgonies. It is a much needed improvement.
Tradtionally, this room would have been for the Captain of the castle. As it is no longer used as such, it will still have the arms of the present captain ("Duncan Paisley, the Paisley clan chief"). Duncan, like myself (a Gentleman of the Bodyguard) is a member of the Balgonie Household, the Captain. This is a very ancient tradition of castles and is still carried on by some, thus keeping alive the old and proud ways of history and tradition.
This task could not have been achieved for Balgonie had it not been for the loyal and trusted help of our clan secretary, Mrs Heike Williamson, she is also a Balgonie Castle Household member (Apothecary). Heike has put in long hours and hard work to see we all achieved a great result. We hope these stairs will serve Balgonie Castle for decades to come.
